Privacy Policy

TL;DR — We designed NoneKnows to know nothing about you. We don't collect your name, email, phone number, or location. We cannot identify who posted any confession, even if we wanted to.
1. Who we are
NoneKnows is an anonymous confession application operated by NoneKnows. If you have questions about this policy, contact us at support@noneknows.com.
2. What we collect
We collect the absolute minimum required to operate the service:
- An anonymous user ID (a cryptographic hash — not linked to your identity)
- Your chosen anonymous handle (e.g. @shadow_soul)
- Confessions, comments and reactions you choose to post
- Report submissions (to keep the community safe)
- Account creation timestamp
3. What we never collect
- Your real name
- Your email address
- Your phone number
- Your location or GPS data
- Your IP address
- Your device identifiers
- Your contacts or address book
- Any biometric data (Face ID / fingerprint stays on your device)
4. How your identity works
When you create an account, your device generates a 5-word recovery phrase. This phrase is processed through a cryptographic hashing function on your device to create a unique anonymous user ID.
The recovery phrase never leaves your device. We only ever receive the resulting hash — a random-looking string that cannot be reversed to identify you.
This means: even if our database were accessed by a third party, no one could identify who posted any confession.
5. How we use your data
- To display your confessions and profile in the app
- To allow reactions and comments on confessions
- To process reports and moderate harmful content
- To allow account recovery on new devices
We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or selling to third parties.
6. Data storage
Your data is stored securely on Supabase servers with encryption at rest and in transit. Your recovery phrase and cryptographic key are stored only on your device using the operating system's secure encrypted storage.
7. Data sharing
We do not sell, rent or share your data with third parties for marketing purposes. We may share data only in the following circumstances:
- When required by law or court order — however, since we store no personally identifiable information, we have nothing meaningful to share
- With Supabase (our database provider) who processes data on our behalf under their own privacy policy
8. Content moderation
Confessions that receive multiple reports are automatically hidden from the feed. We review reported content to maintain community safety. Content that violates our guidelines may be permanently deleted.
9. Your rights
Since we store no personal data linked to your identity, traditional data rights (access, correction, deletion) work differently here:
- You can delete your own confessions at any time within the app
- You can delete your own comments at any time within the app
- Since we cannot identify you, we cannot process identity-based data requests
10. Children's privacy
NoneKnows is not intended for users under 17 years of age. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a minor is using the app, please contact us at support@noneknows.com.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page when we do. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the new policy.
